Abandoned vessels: owners urged to act
Presence of abandoned boats in the lagoon:
Owners are urged to evacuate their property!

The Major Risks Department of the Collectivité de Saint-Martin and the services of the French State have identified around 30 abandoned or inhabited but unseaworthy boats in Simpson Bay lagoon, on the French side. In hurricane season, these boats represent a real danger and must be moved out of territorial waters by their owners.

The Collectivité expressly requests the owners of these vessels to take the necessary steps to evacuate their property before the peak of the hurricane season. The local authorities and the Gendarmerie Nautique Nationale are responsible for notifying individual vessels and notifying those in charge of them, so that they can ensure that the boats are moved and that the request made by the territorial authorities is carried out.

The Collectivité de Saint-Martin reminds owners that they are fully responsible for their property and that they are required to have insurance and to remove them from the lagoon at the risk of undergoing legal actions.

Several notice of legal actions have already been issued.
